This week I filled in the tiny factory “cruise control” on my 42. I sanded off most of the gelcoat in the pockets to prep them. I decided it would be easiest to just cut the push rod stuffing boxes out with a hole saw, a 3” hole saw.
I filled the tabs with 15 layers of 1708 fiberglass, West Systems Epoxy. I thickened the epoxy with microfibers, and micro balloons layering it between fiberglass.
I set the tabs in the pockets with thickened epoxy with microfibers and cabisol.
For the hole in the hull, after the tabs were set I layered 25 pieces of 1708 to fill the hole, then laid 5 layers of fiberglass about 1’ square over the whole area.
The whole tab area will be covered in fiberglass and epoxy on the outside of the hull as part of my bottom job.
Hull looks real thick there! Nice!
